Well it didn’t take long for media liberals and various celebrities to express their smirking disdain for Tim Tebow being traded to the New York Jets. However, I’m guessing that many of them are secretly thrilled at the chance to potentially see the proudly Christian quarterback strain and struggle under the high pressure lights of the “Big Apple”. It’s the ultimate home game for the liberal elite who are now getting the devout twenty-three year old on their own hyper progressive home turf.
So what is it about the mainstream media networks (many of which are based in New York), and liberals in general (many of whom are based in the East coast), which compels them to cast the young quarterback as a polarizing, religious zealot while deeming the idea of a ground zero mosque as perfectly acceptable? How can they not see that their endless apologizing for radical Islam shamefully contradicts their never ending quest to paint Christians as the world’s great oppressors? This, once again, causes conservatives to rub the collective back of their tightening necks and ask: are liberals really this dense?

Tebow at his most threatening.
Well, yes and no.
Obviously, liberals are dense-otherwise this blog probably wouldn’t need to exist-but I actually don’t think they are as clueless as they present themselves to be. In fact, I think many of them, deep down, are well aware of their hypocrisies. However, when you’re driven by the basic mantra of ‘do whatever feels good and America is mean’ then being hypocritical is just part of the job.
Which brings us back to Tebow and the mosque. In the latter’s case, the concept of defending a ground zero mosque falls perfectly in line with both parts of the above mantra. Liberals get to feel all warm and fuzzy by supporting a group they wrongly and condescendingly perceive as cute, ethnic underdogs while at the same time getting to portray Americans as a big bunch of insensitive meanies. As for the former, attacking Tebow brings them a similarly righteous glee, but there’s something more; the linebacker sized quarterback stands for a set of ideals very different from the ones of self-indulgence that liberals typically strive for. And that scares them. This is why liberals are far more likely to accept (and possibly even admire) the athletes, celebrities, and politicians who wallow in substance abuse, sex scandals, and even violent crimes, than they are of a sober, celibate quarterback who thanks God for his health and spends time with sick children.
Jack Nickelson, as Colonel Nathan Jessup, lectures Tom Cruise about the places, deep down, that liberals don’t want to talk about.
There is definitely a cinematic quality to Tebow being traded to the Jets. Whereas being in Denver was a perfect cultural fit for Tebow, playing in New York is not. And in place of the admittedly over-the-top love for Tebow will be a snarling media and a callous, unfamiliar fan base which will test number fifteen’s well vaunted internal strength in ways that far exceed anything he could ever experience in Denver or anywhere else in the country. Thus, leading to the well worn movie trope of the seemingly innocent, relatively small town boy/girl, journeying to the unforgiving big city in hopes of thriving on the nation’s biggest stage.
The NFL has seen a long, long list of quarterbacks with far superior throwing mechanics to that of Tebow’s come and go without ever achieving any real success in the brutal league. And, likewise, whether or not Tebow’s unique skill set allows him to truly rise above his naysayers while with the Jets -or in the NFL- remains to be seen. However, irregardless of how his playing career turns out, Tebow’s character as a human being will always be something that deep down, the liberals who attack him know they’ll never have. And in the end, that’s worth more than any Super Bowl ring.
